About Us
Introducing our Studio
The studio is a place to gather with friends and family to create things. We have projects for every level of maker, every age, and all price ranges.
The studio provides all the necessary tools (battery-operated only) and all the supplies you need to create your customized project. We offer laser-cut projects that just need to be painted and glued together as well as projects that require the use of tools.
When you order your project, everything will be cut and placed at a seat at your selected date and time. We also have a smaller selection of walk-in projects that have already been cut beforehand.
You pick the project and the paint colors and/or stain (in the studio on the date & time you chose to make your item) for a truly customized piece for your home or for a gift.
Personalized projects are available and will require an additional fee and time when noted.
We have projects for every holiday or occasion. We can offer a place for birthday parties (kids & adults), team-building workshops, date nights, girls' nights and more! We are BYOB. We can do fundraisers.
A Little Bit About The Owners
Shields DIY is owned by married team Melissa and "Vince" Vincent. They have been married for 23 years, they have a son, Emory, 5 cats, LuvBug, the mama to Pascal, Crosby, Geno (yes, they are big hockey fans) & Copper. They love to bicker, in fact, it's been called "The Melissa & Vince Show." The good-natured bickering reminds them of Melissa's grandparent's marriage, which lasted over 52 years, until her grandfather, aka Don Shields died in 2001.
Melissa is a fourth-generation crafter. Her maternal great-grandmother was a painter, her grandmother loved to do ceramics as well as plastic canvas projects, and her mom, Donna is big into music she plays the harp and the piano. Donna is often at the shop working on diamond painting projects. Melissa's sisters, Gretchen and Crystal who are crafters are frequent visitors too. Shields is definitely a family run business. Melissa was a stay at home cat mom until she went with her sisters & mom to a franchise DIY shop, that's all it took for Melissa to start planning her own version. That was 3 years ago.
"Vince" is a retired U.S. Naval Seabee. He served our country for 22 years and retired in 2000. Vince or Vinny truly embodies the Seabee motto: "Can Do, Have Done and Will Do Again." Construction is in his blood and he is a jack of all trades. Vince is in charge of the wood storage area and all that that entails. He loves to share his "war stories" and photos of penguins in Antarctica or some of the other places he's traveled to. He is also a big flirt but Melissa swears he's harmless, mostly because he doesn't think he's flirting.
